The fight against terrorism must begin with fighting Qatar

From Washington, Khalid Al taref

The writer, journalist and US expert Todd Wood stressed that any war on terrorism must necessarily pass through forcing Qatar to abandon its support for extremism and terrorism.

The Washington Times journal published, in this context a report, translated by TheRiyadhPost, in which it said that, with the inauguration of President Trump, the United States may have a unique opportunity to finally deal with the sources of terrorism in the Middle East in a more decisive way than ever since September 11 by supporting its historic allies, the first of which is Saudi Arabia, against Qatar which is a serious hotbed for supporting and financing of terrorism.

Wood also added that Trump has to end Obama's leniency with Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood, which is close to extremist terrorist organizations such as al Qaeda.

The American expert points out that Qatar's support for terrorism is carried out through various methods and ways, most notably the hosting of preachers and advocates of extremism and fundraising for figures closely linked to the organization of the Islamic state, not to mention the large relations of Doha with both Iran and Hamas.

Wood also explained that Doha's rapprochement with Tehran represents a stab from Qatar to its neighbors, who see Iran's nuclear and missile programs as an existential threat to them, at a time when the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera news channel turned into a rostrum for extremists, a platform for militarization, and incitement against its neighbors, considering the support of Doha to Ansar al-Sharia group that attacked American facilities in Benghazi and killed the US ambassador in Libya, as a living example of Qatar's continued support for terrorism.

Todd Wood expects a growing conflict in the Middle East between the real allies of America and Iran, noting that America will need its allies in the Gulf to dissuade Tehran from using its terrorist militias deployed from Iraq to Syria and Lebanon in order to spread chaos and threaten peace in the region.

In a related context, the American writer points out that Washington needs Riyadh more than ever to cooperate with it in the field of security, energy, and economy, while Trump’s administration is trying to achieve annual growth of 3%, as well as to confront the terrorist organizations and the countries that support it in the region.
